Brain is the storehouse of memory. Thus,
care should be taken so that your children avoid injuring
the brain. Repeating the matter at home which they have
studied or heard at school always reinforces retention. Ask
children to associate the date or event with some catchy
phrase or image. Our brain is excellent in associative
recall. Let them learn just one new thing each day. Find
something interesting to keep them motivated. Allow children
to exercise their mind.
The kind of food children have,
affects the working of their brain. Healthy brain food keeps
their mental motor running, just as a healthy diet keeps the
body going. According to Ayurveda, people have three basic
body types (doshas) — vata, pitta and kapha.
A child should take food according to his dosha to get best
results.
Antioxidants are great memory boosters.
Blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries,
cherries, raisins, spinach, alfalfa sprouts, plums,
broccoli, beets, oranges, red peppers, red grapes, etc. are
loaded with antioxidants. Let them eat plenty of these
daily. Eating 7-8 almonds daily can improve memory. Ask them
to drink milk on a daily basis. A teaspoon of chyavanprash
in the morning every day acts a good memory enhancer.
Natural foods such as seeds and grains are good for brain
and memory improvement.
